Waimamamaku - Waimamamaku The Old Cheese Factory

Author: snapperd     Publisher: snapperd     Date: 1980s

The old Cheese factory was once turned into a textile mill. Equipment and
machinery was brought up from a closed down factory in Masterton .But first the
guy who saw the future of employment in the area; Mr Glen Risk got a Govt grant
for training young men in carpentry and woodwork and a lot of work went into
refurbishing the old Cheese factory Courtesy of the NZ government.
He then got another grant to set up training for people to run the plant The main item used was angora goat hair And i still have a blanket my friend wove for me It would have to be the warmest blanket you could wish for. Things were taking a long
time to sort out but Glen was sure it would get off the ground He bought a 50
acre block at the top of the hill converted the old sheep shearing shed into a
liveable batch until he eventually moved a house onto the site . It was a grand
1960s villa from Russell, copper spouting and all. How ever as some good plansoften go wrong So did Glen's dream .A hungry IRD department and an unscrupulous partner saw the plug pulled on the whole thing  . Glen.lost everything including hisnew home and land on the hill . He went back to Auckland a tired and broken manHe died of emphasema not long after that    Oh the things that might have been. ..
