Foster family graves

Groshen Valley - Foster family graves

Author: Katy Brown     Publisher: Charlie         Family Name: Gardiner

Earlier this year I went with my husband and his family to rediscover some of the places of significance in the family's history.

As well as visiting several cemeteries in Okaihau, we also headed up north to the Groshen Valley, tucked inland, south-west of Kaeo.

A local farmer gave us permission to cross his land, and after 5km on the back of a four wheel drive, we reached the gravesite of Ann and Stovin Foster, two of their children, and a niece.

Ann and Stovin Foster are my husband's great great great grandparents. It was incredible to find their gravesite in the middle of a pine plantation. Some of the other family members had covered the graves in concrete in 2000 to permanently mark their place, and had named the graves as well as putting a plaque on a large rock next to the gravesite.

Great to see this bit of history on the website for public viewing - cos it is
not an easy trek to the gravesite.
