Moving to Whangarei

Whangarei - Moving to Whangarei

Author: Barac     Publisher: Underwood

I moved to Whangarei about two years ago. Before I moved here I was living in Auckland and working in a clothes shop and doing freelance design. I decided to move up to Whangarei as I was dating a girl up here and I was sick of driving for over two hours just to see her for a day. I remember once I was in Hamilton watching a friends gig and I decided that I wanted to see Anna so I drove from Hamilton to Whangarei in one sitting and got to see her for three hours before I had to drive back to Auckland because I had work the next day. The things you do for love ay!

I moved to Whangarei with no job prospects and I had been hitting big fish creative up for a job over the past six months. I was living on the floor at Annas parents house and I decided to drop back into big fish for a bit of a talk. They ended up taking me on. So that day I brought in my iBook and sat in the corner and did some design work for them. I ended up sitting in that corner for about two months before they gave me a proper desk with a proper computer. I really enjoyed working for big fish but it was hard for the first year not feeling like a true creative person and trying to do design. They have been a great company to work for.

So about a year after moving to Whangarei I decided to ask Anna to marry me. She accepted and we now had a wedding to plan. We were engaged for ten months. It was a very long engagement and I would recommend not having such a long engagement but we did get everything sorted for the wedding. We were planing for ten months and not one day went by that we didn't do something wedding related. Its amazing how much planning and work goes into that one day. But well worth it. We had our wedding in some private gardens in Waipu and the reception was at Artform. It was an amazing wedding.

Anna and I are living in a small two bedroom flat in Morningside. Anna is in her last year of an early childhood degree and I have now been working for big fish for over two years. We have a rental property in Otiaka that we manage but may move into at the end of the year. We love Whangarei because it is so close to our family and it is not far to the beach and the country. We had thought about moving back to Auckland but I don't think that will happen. Looking forward to the years to come with Anna and living in Whangarei
